Hajj and Umrah baggage technology

The technology behind Hajj-without-a-bag initiatives with Saudia and flynas: pilgrims travel without their bags from collection points through airport processing to hotel delivery, with custody confirmed at every hand-off, across airlines, airports, handlers and providers. HalaBag is the airlines' technical partner; the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah's own systems remain the programme's.

The problem

Pilgrimage baggage is the most demanding baggage operation in the world: millions of bags, weeks of peak, group movements, multiple airlines and airports, government stakeholders and hotels. It cannot run on spreadsheets and it cannot be built the week before.

How it works

    Group and pilgrim intake

    Bookings arrive from airlines, group operators and platforms with pilgrim, group and hotel data.

  2. 2

    Collection and acceptance

    Bags are collected at hotels, camps and city points, screened and accepted into the airline's workflow within cut-offs.

  3. 3

    Airport processing

    Hand-offs to handlers confirmed; bags tracked through departure, transit and arrival.

  4. 4

    Hotel delivery

    At the destination the case allocates to providers for delivery to Makkah and Madinah hotels within the programme SLA.

  5. 5

    Programme reporting

    Volumes, SLA status and exceptions reported to airlines, operators and the programme authority.

HalaBag is the technical partner for the airline initiatives inside the programme, working with Saudia and flynas. It does not operate the Ministry's platforms, such as Nusuk. HalaBag runs the baggage case from collection to hotel delivery for the airlines that use it.
